What types of locks are best for my doors?

There are three main types of door locks.

1. Deadbolts - Both Sides
2. Deadbolt - Single
3. Keyed Knob

Depending on your location and the level of security you need, each of these locks offers some advantages and disadvantages. The least secure is the Keyed Knob. This lock type uses a single key in the knob on the outside and then a simple turn lock mechanism on the inside. Mid-level security can be provided by a single sided deadbolt. This is a deadbolt lock that is separate from the knob assembly. It uses a key on the exterior, but has a switch or turn mechanism for the interior. These provide a much higher level of security than the knob type and can be used in most installation. The highest level of security is a dual keyed deadbolt. This deadbolt lock requires a key on both the interior and exterior. If you are placing the deadbolt into a door that has a glass partition in the door, this lock is preferred as it ensures security even if the glass within the door has been compromised.
